Nagpur News: “Once beaten, twice shy.” The saying was followed by RTMNU authorities word to word. The Sunday was almost repeated on Monday as a mob of students started to gather in front of the University. The RTMNU had witnessed the volcanic mood and subsequent violence and damage to property by the students of some of the blacklisted colleges. Today, as soon as the students started to gather in groups, the varsity officials closed the big doors and called the Sitabuldi police immediately. The police, in a swift action, detained four students before any untoward incident. The detention of four students triggered a rush of about 150 students to the Sitabuldi Police Station. The students were later taken to office of Commissioner of Police.

RELEASED AT 7 PM:

According to reports, hundreds of students, led by National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), reached RTMNU on Monday again. The increasing number of students left RTMNU authorities trembling and they immediately summoned police in order to avert the Sunday. Police immediately detained some students at about 2 pm but released them at 7 pm.

It may be recalled, hundreds of students had mobbed RTMNU demanding they be allowed to appear for examinations. At the same time, RTMNU’s Vidvat Parishad was holding its crucial meeting in the afternoon. The gathered students started shouting high-pitched slogans thereby raising their demands. However, the premises took the shape of a war-zone in the evening when the mob of students, outraged by no communication at all by the concerned RTMNU officials with them, resorted to violence and started damaging the property during the ongoing Vidvat Parishad meeting. The students were led by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). The NSUI’s State Vice President Ajit Singh, Ashish Manpe, Bhushan Maraskolhe, Amir Noori, Abhishek and others were arrested.

THE REASON:

RTMNU had blacklisted 250 colleges having not a single regular teacher as a fall out of a petition filed in the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court against these colleges. The University then issued the list of such colleges and subsequently barred the First Year admissions for the academic year 2013-14 in these colleges. However, some colleges admitted students despite the ban believing the ban would be lifted after some time. But the issue is in the High Court for its consideration.

Since the issue is in Court, the RTMNU did not accept the examination forms of the students who had taken admissions in such colleges and thereby disallowed them to appear in the examinations. The frustrated students first raised their voice against their respective colleges for misguiding them and recovering fees. On Sunday, the students reached the RTMNU for justice as they are on the verge of losing an academic year.

The students of class 12th studying in CBSE schools, particularly those preparing for Joint Engineering Examinations (JEE) online, are in for a pleasant surprise after the CBSE come flexible on the students and allowed them to decide the exam slots of their wish, in view of their examination dates clashing with the JEE online exam.

The dates of JEE Main are reportedly clashing with CBSE class 12th examination. Keeping this in mind, the Central Board of Secondary Education has now given full freedom to the candidates to change their exam slots if the exams dates appear to be coinciding.

The JEE online examination is scheduled to take place on 9th April, 11th April, 12th April and 19th April between 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.

However, Mala Chembath, Principal of Narayana Vidyalayam at Chinch Bhuvan informed though the dates of CBSE examinations are clashing with the JEE online examinations, these dates do not include the students from science or math streams. “11th and 12th April are the two dates of CBSE examinations coinciding with the JEE Main online examination but there is no paper of the students from science or math streams on these dates. On 11th April, students of Home Science and Kannada will have their examinations whereas on 12th April, examinations will be held for Philosophy and other subjects. So there is no question of applying for the change in slots as the science students will remain unaffected on these dates,” she told Nagpur Today.

Meanwhile, upon receiving some requests from the candidates regarding clash of dates of Board’s examination with the dates of Computer Based Examination of JEE (Main) 2014, the CBSE has asked the affected candidates to send a copy of their Class 12 admit card by e-mail on jeemain@nic.in latest by 15th March. In addition, the candidates must not forget to mention their application number of JEE (Main) 2014.

JEE Main 2014 examination will be conducted on 6th April by CBSE. JEE Main is the qualifying entrance examination for admission to engineering / technology courses across the country in NITs, CFTIs and SFTIs.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

“Education has a varied infinitely in time and places. Today, it tries to make of the individual an autonomous personality. In Athens, they sought to form cultivated souls, informed, subtle, full of measure and harmony, capable of enjoying the beauty and the joys of pure speculation; in Rome, they wanted above all for children to become man of action, devoted to military glory, indifferent to letters and the arts”. (Durkheim 1956)

Introduction

In an increasingly knowledge-dependent economy, colleges and universities take on more central role in society’s institutional fabric, and their performance has definite repercussions throughout the society. As a result family, entrepreneurs, voluntary organization and corporate ventures take a stronger role in the governance of education and the institutional landscape changes from monistic to a pluralistic world.

These new institutional realities present a challenge to control institutional theories in education. A college/ university, for example can be handful of students sitting in a class and trying to unlearn what they have learned, a group of youngsters learning how to write project report, or a group of adolescents in computer lab busy on surfing web pages or spending time in chatting. The purpose of this paper is to tell why out of this stupendous variety of feasible form-this or that particularly one is selected and whose interest might be best served by that selected arrangement.

On the other hand what corporate needs, is to understand the trade-offs involved in using one form of institution to the exclusion of other possible ones, according to their needs educational institutes shall know what best alternatives a society shall have and policy makers for educational institutes shall know them. Which social group might be favored or advantaged by this particular framework.

Perspective of educational institute as a company

The natural question that may arise is that why we should construct a framework which forms an isomorphism between educational institute and a company. Following are some reasons to do so.

  1. To increase practical knowledge in respective interest area for students and their teachers
  2. On the basis of outstanding higher skill level of teachers to reach the state when college/university will be natural expert authority for respective interest area sought out the firms in any problems with improving of skills for their staff.
  3. To create natural space for student´s involvement to managed practice in firms and future employers
  4. To create space for future short-terms stages of college/university teachers in firms and companies.
  5. Creation of specialized study materials for short terms educational activities (one or two days typically) according to firm´s requirements oriented to practical training and evaluate their efficiency in educational process.
  6. To match the corporate needs and implanting those in educational institutes
  7. To concretize the commercial aspect that is prevalent in the educational sector.
  8. To have a stronger outlook towards industry-institute relationship

Business Education Alliance

To run education as a business the first step may be to form an alliance between business and education. There should must exist a strong alliance between business firms/ corporate and education institutes to facilitate a mutually beneficial partnership between business and education to prepare productive citizens. Following determinants shall be taken care of while making this kind of alliance

  1. To facilitate an alliance between business and education, that will create trust and understanding, educate and promote dialogue, and identify mutual benefits between the two partner groups.
  2. To prepare citizens to become part of an effective workforce by identifying principle skills, attitudes, and values required to ensure successful employment for all students.
  3. To share new and existing resources with area educators promoting the college-to-work principles and expediting communication between faculties-students and employer.
  4. To promote lifelong learning to and throughout the entire community in order to help our population compete for employment in the 21st century’s competitive global economy.
  5. To create a trust in the mind of common citizen that the alliance is not for commercial aspect but to enhance job opportunities to prospective eligible students.
  6. To remove the third parties those are involved in various aspects of education.
  7. Selection of students must be made with utmost care so that the basic objective of the industry can be achieved.

Business-Education model : C3PF Model

Now a day’s many for-profit corporations are targeting the higher education market. Analyzing their strategies helps reveal possible effects of these entrants on the incumbent colleges’ and universities’ business models. It is difficult to be precise about strategies of the new entrants. There are several possible ways to categorize the entry strategies for the new players. This analysis focuses on five elements that seem to have the most repercussions for traditional colleges and universities: the courses entrants offer, their target customer group, where their content originates, the pedagogy they employ, and their pricing.

chart

Course: Many of the companies are focused on the area such as management, information technologies, applied sciences and many others. The employees from these areas are focusing on continuing education for their profession, but many universities/colleges offer a fulltime bachelors/masters degree which may not be suitable for them for many different reasons, may be the content are not useful for their knowledge up gradation, it is irrelevant for their use or doest match with the industry needs.

Hence the course should contain designed by the industry/business related material or shall have entrepreneurial development skills or should be focused on great employability skills but with consistent review and up gradation

Client: Consistent with the predominance of business courses, the major clients are corporate employees. If the course is suitable for the corporate employees they will be occupying the big size of entire higher education market and will grow rapidly

Hence if the course is designed to contain all relevant contents that are suitable for the industry persons then they will definitely opt for it for their knowledge up gradation and for general students it will be an opportunity to learn industry skills with a perfect blend of practical knowledge.

Content: Course material can be generated in three primary ways. First, they can hire their own staffs to develop new materials. Second, they can license existing courses from colleges and universities. Third, they can contract directly with individual research scholars or other subject experts for material and courses. How contents are developed is of vital importance to colleges /universities and businesses, whose interests lie in keeping the third source of content to a minimum. Indeed, several major players appear to be pursuing all three options. While deals at the university level are attractive, thus far they have been

quite expensive; the long-term trend will probably be for entrants to source material directly from faculty

Pedagogy: As per the source of the content the pedagogical approach should be broad and diverse. Since there will be variety of clients for these type of course, according to their suitability the pedagogy shall be designed. Asynchronous technologies shall be used instead of traditional technologies. A major breakthrough is in the use of technology for education that will come with the widespread adoption of broadband that allows streaming, realistic, two-way video into the home.

Fees: Fees structure design has the greatest potential to disturb education’s current environment. Use of above mentioned teaching pedagogy which uses great advantage of new technology will allow very low fees course since the marginal cost of delivering the course is very negligible. Finally, education is an experience good—the purchase decision involves perceptions and interpretations of signals about quality. Thus, the powerful implication for colleges and universities is that extensive price competition is unlikely to occur immediately.

Conclusion

Who will win in the long run—entrants exploiting the corporate market and then moving into the traditional university market via distance learning, or institutions have already begun. It depends principally on the relative attractiveness of the two markets. The corporate market is the fastest growing and the most profitable. Additionally, and perhaps most important, the demands of the corporate market force quicker development along a steeper technological trajectory, where colleges/universities and businesses develop new pedagogies and build the capabilities needed to succeed when they enter the traditional university market. Two important conclusions can be drawn from this analysis. The first is that the direct competitive threat to most of the traditional core offerings of colleges and universities will be delayed. Instead, alliance of college/universities and business are largely focused on the corporate market and graduate level training, and at only slightly lower prices. That is the good news. The bad news is that well funded competitors, often backed by brand name institutions through alliances, will be hard to beat once they are established. First mover advantages that they can exploit, particularly the more rapid development of the skills needed to harness the new technologies and develop new pedagogies will put them in good stead as they gradually transition to compete more directly in the traditional higher education market.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

“I will not buckle under any presser. The issue of the colleges having no regular teachers, and subsequently blacklisted, has been under the hammer of the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. The Management Council had once arrived at a decision on the issue. The RTMNU Administration will decide the issue of such colleges in accordance with the High Court and the Ordinance. The Administration will not bow down to any pressure tactics, and if the need arises, the Management Council will be kicked out. I can use the special powers I am armed with,” Dr Vilas Sapkal asserted.

Nagpur News: The battered and bruised Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Dr Vilas Sapkal has finally put his foot down and warned that the “game playing” Management Council (MC) would be fired if the need arises.

I can use the special powers I am armed with,” the red-faced Vice Chancellor told media in a press conference held on Monday.

MISLEADING BEING INDULGED:

Dr Sapkal said, despite negativity, the Administration has been making all out efforts for development of the RTMNU. The work on answer papers with barcode has been in the final stage. The RTMNU Administration is focused and serious on Convocation Ceremony and it would be organized as soon as possible. But the Management Council members have been putting hurdles in the Administration’s efforts and thus deliberately delaying the Convocation Ceremony and indulging in misleading the people. “The meeting of Board of Examination (BoE) has already been taken in this connection and now the final decision on Convocation Ceremony lies with the Management Council. Some MC members had demanded Point of Information on some specific issues which the RTMNU Administration had provided, the Vice Chancellor Dr Vilas Sapkal said.

Dr Sapkal further said that the Law College has four regular teachers. All the departments of the University have NET-CET qualified teachers. The process for PhD guide will be made easier one. The investigation process regarding recognition of 18 BEd Colleges has been going on, the Vice Chancellor said.

WAR OF WORDS:

The hard-hitting statements by the Vice Chancellor Dr Sapkal against the Management Council members triggered a war of words with the MC members raising questions over the VC’s decision-making capability. The members directly targeted Dr Sapkal and even demanded his resignation. The fighting between the VC and various Councils is resulting in no fixing of date for the Convocation Ceremony. And the students are becoming the victims of the fighting and taking the maximum brunt regarding various crucial issues.

MEETING ADJOURNED:

The members of the Management Council, in a meeting held on Monday, vociferously demanded removal of those colleges that have completed the process of appointing regular teachers from the blacklisted list and regularization of the admission process. The uproar by members started when the Vice Chancellor frequently informed them that the issue has been under consideration of the Court. Dr Sapkal’s bone of contention was that there is no specification whether the appointment of regular teachers should be one or more in the blacklisted colleges. In this situation, no final decision could be taken in this connection. The meeting, which started at 1 pm, was adjourned at 2.30 pm without any tangible decision.

STRONG DEMAND ON VC’S RESIGNATION:

After the meeting was adjourned, the Management Council members held a separate press conference attended prominently by Dr Baban Taywade, Adv Abhijit Wanjari, Mahendra Nimbarte, Adv D K Agrawal, and Dr K C Deshmukh. The members demanded removal of 40 colleges that have appointed regular teachers from the list of flawed colleges. The members also demanded withdrawal of FIR filed against the students saying they opposed such RTMNU move. The Vice Chancellor could be forced to resign. “We are very serious and concerned over organization of the Convocation Ceremony but the University Administration is not coming forward with a positive attitude. On the contrary, the Vice Chancellor has been blaming the MC members for delaying the Convocation Ceremony,” the members said.

THE ONLY ISSUE SINCE PAST 8 MONTHS:

It may be recalled, the issue of the colleges having no regular teachers had been raised in umpteen meetings but the meetings were adjourned without any concrete decision. Then the meetings may be of Management Council, Vidvat Parishad or Senate. The meeting starts with only one issue and ends on the same issue. The owners/directors of such colleges time and again resorted to chaos at RTMNU over the issue. The college managements raise questions over style of RTMNU working, and the University Administration stress upon appointing regular teachers. This fighting on only one issue has been going on since the past 8 months.

Nitin Gadkari while addressing the crowd!

A grand opening for the unique first ever National Students Parliament commenced. While addressing the students of Raisoni Group of Educational Institutions former chief of BJP party Nitin Gadkari said, “Though this is not a platform for political motivation, yet I would like to appeal that you can join BJP, or you can even join Congress or even Aam Admi Party (when the students shouted in one voice AAP).

The Indians have an opportunistic thought pattern. Our country’s attitude is narrowing towards zero. We are a rich nation with poor population because of wrong policies of the Government. He said that one need not succeed only because he has acquired specific qualifications in one particular field. Where there is a will there is way. All that is required is daring, successful leadership, dynamism, conviction by the leadership. Focus on positive attitude. Self Confidence is what is required of the youth today. The world bows down to those who can make the people bow down. Intelligent people don’t want to enter politics. He explained how he was successful in making various structures especially the flyovers in Pune and sea link in Mumbai. He said that if will power is present then a flyover can be made and completed in 2.5 years.”

The first session – ‘What young India wants?’ was chaired by vice chancellor Sapkal. The prominent speakers in session I were Chetan Bhagat, Durgojoy Dutta & Diana Hayden who motivated the youth to bring a positive change and be able to achieve what they dream of.

The state and direction of the country today needs to change substantially and only the youth can do that. There are going to sessions on many socially relevant issues like India in 2020, Social Media, Education and Indian Politics.

I have nearly 2.5 years experience in the parliament and there many discussions are held, deliberations over the issues are held and after that laws are passed.” He appealed to the students to pay attention and listen to everything the experts have to say carefully, understand them and after that discuss the issues and express your views. This will help in getting the entire process of what goes on in the National level and how what you can do be relevant. He also said that all the resolutions passed after each session will be sent to the leaders sitting in parliament so that the opinions of the student will also be heard there. Instead of dwelling in who said what, what is required today is the students tell this is what we want and this is our contribution towards that. He said that where there is will there is a way. Criticism is the easiest thing any can do but youth has immense power. If you think positive, then sky is the limit. Join active politics and play a constructive role in the development of India.

Chetan Bhagat

Chetan Bhagat

While addressing the students of Raisoni Group of Educational Institutions, Chetan Bhagat talked about the importance of culture, power and youth. He explained of what is wrong with India. According to him, China and India were the same in income earlier. He added that according to Indian politics, religion, class and caste. We have the 4th generation of Gandhi family in power. He explained how vote bank politics play an important role; how Congress encashes on Muslim, and minority votes. On the other side the BJP has always had the middle class, Hindu majority and recently is catching up. However consequence of this rule has brought about monumental scams, poverty and poor governance.

However he agreed that the times have changed. He added that social network is playing a vital role in politics. He said that the media power is rising and so is the frustration of the masses. Many movements especially the anti-corruption movement has been brought about, yet there has been no change. This is because the government, as well as the citizens is weak. Everyone is here because of personal motives. Everyone wants to know what they’ll get, if he comes to power or if someone else who is of a particular religion, race, regional affiliation comes to power. According to him we have Freebie policies. (You will get this free with the purchase of that)

He expounded on the great Indian Psychotherapy. He talked about our servility, Numbness to injustice and divisiveness. He concluded with how long the common man will remain common. Shouldn’t he become special? (Kabhi toh Aam admi ko bhi khas admi bhi bannana hai)

“Sustained self efforts towards achieving excellence in whatever we do are the need of the hour. This significant aspect alone can bring us into the global scenario. By 2020, the world youth ratio will be 70 per cent and the way we are growing, the percentage of our youth in higher education will be a sparse 12 or even less. We will have to strive hard to bridge this percentage (58 per cent) gap by focusing on education,” the MLA said on the concluding day of the National Students’ Parliament, organized by the Raisoni Group of Institutions.

devendrafadnavis

Nagpur News: President of Maharashtra BJP, Devendra Fadnavis, speaking on second day of the National Students’ Parliament, organized by the Raisoni Group of Institutions at their campus at Hingna Road, was at his charismatic best. Devendra Fadnavis, the South West Nagpur MLA, as is renowned for, talked with fact and figures on the topic that he is passionate about and thus drawing an instant applause from the distinguished audience consisting of lecturers, professors, officials and, of course, the students.

Fadnavis said, “Sustained self efforts towards achieving excellence in whatever we do is the need of the hour. This significant aspect alone can bring us into the global scenario. By 2020, the world youth ratio will be 70 per cent and the way we are growing, the percentage of our youth in higher education will be a sparse 12 or even less. We will have to strive hard to bridge this percentage (58 per cent) gap by focusing on education,” the MLA said.

The Board has made it mandatory for the students of Class IX to secure minimum of 25 percent marks in their Summative Assessments (SA), failing which they will not to be promoted to the next upper class.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced new guidelines for students of Class IX and Class X making it mandatory for the students of Class IX to secure minimum of 25 percent marks in their Summative Assessments (SA), failing which the students will not to be promoted to the next upper class.

The Nagpur Today, in an effort to seek comments from Principals of different CBSE schools in the city, contacted the Principal, BVM, Civil Lines, Anju Bhutani. She said all the Principals and teachers would welcome this format. It will bring in comprehensive evaluation of the students. Summative Assessments contain bigger portion. Students will be able to learn and improve their minimum qualifying marks in order to get promoted to the next upper class. This will truly help in enhancing students’ academic caliber, the Principal Anju Bhutani said.

The CBSE had introduced the change last year only but the students will be facing the effects from now on as only a month has been left for the SA.

Previously, the students’ mark sheet used to contain the cumulative scores in the two SAs and four Formative Assessments for each subject but after this revision, they will have to score a minimum of 15 marks out of 60 in each of SAs to get promoted. This year, the rule will not be applicable for the Class X students but from the next year, the Board students will also have to face the challenge.

Last year, CBSE had notified that the students were not only have to score at least 25 percent marks  in the Summative Assessments all together, but their attendance in both of the assessments must be above the threshold. For an untoward situation like illness, the students will have to re-appear for the exam within a given time.

The Prinicipal, Modern School, Neeru Kapai, told Nagpur Today that it is reasonably okay. “This new format will be applicable for Class IX students from this year and, from the next year onwards, the Class X students would be covered for this format.  The students must be capable to achieve the minimum performance. Every student will be treated at par,” said Neeru Kapai.

If the students are participating in sports events at National/International level organized by recognized federations, CBSE, SGFI in the same month of the conduct of SA, the students would be exempted from one of the SAs but only after taking approval from the Board prior the SA. In that case, SA1 marks will be indicated for the SA2 by the Board.

The Principal, Centre Point School, Sumati Venugopalan, said it is a good initiative. Now, the students will take all the SA exams seriously. Normally, there is a tendency that students only take the final exams seriously. Students feel that the teachers will give them high marks in the SA exams. This new format has been welcomed by the teachers, Venugopalan said.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NU1113Nagpur News.

The examinations of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) starting in the month of April will have answer-papers with Bar Code. The final decision in this regard was taken by the University’s Sub-Committee. Interestingly, RTMNU’s examinations are commencing from March 5. The old answer-papers would be used for these examinations and the answer-papers with Bar Code would be available only for examinations starting in April.

FOUR LAKH NEW ANSWER-PAPERS:

According to information, around 11 lakh answer-papers are required for RTMNU’s examinations. There is stock of about 7 lakh answer-papers printed on old pattern. It means, 4 lakh answer-papers with Bar Code would be printed containing 32 pages. The space on the last page of the Bar Code answer-papers has been left for revaluation.

THE PROBLEM:

It may be recalled, the proposal on Bar Code answer-papers was pending on the table of Vice Chancellor Dr Vilas Sapkal for three months. Finally, the Board of Examinations (BoE), in its meeting held in October 2013, sanctioned the proposal and a tender was floated. Thereafter, a Sub-Committee was constituted to find any technical shortcomings in the answer-papers. The Sub-Committee comprised of Controller of Examinations Dr Vilas Ramteke, member of Management Council Mahendra Nimbarte, and RTMNU Printing Unit’s Kharad. However, questions were raised over other two members’ technical knowledge.

The Director of State Higher Education B R Gaekwad had earlier also probed the appointment of Dr Ramteke as CoE of RTMNU. However, the RTMNU Administration had upheld the appointment of Dr Ramteke as correct and valid. The University’s stand forced re-investigation by the Director.

Nagpur News.

The Director of State Higher Education, in his re-investigation, has again found the appointment Dr Vilas Ramteke as Controller of Examinations (CoE) of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) invalid. He will submit his report to State Government in this connection soon.

The Director of State Higher Education B R Gaekwad had earlier also probed the appointment of Dr Ramteke as CoE of RTMNU. However, the RTMNU Administration had upheld the appointment of Dr Ramteke as correct and valid. The University’s stand forced re-investigation by the Director Gaekwad, who again found the appointment invalid. Now, the probe report would be submitted to the State Government. A letter on this aspect has already been sent to RTMNU’s Registrar. Earlier, the University had stood behind the CoE and had stated Dr Ramteke’s appointment as correct and valid. The varsity had sent a letter to the office of Director of State Higher Education and sought a reply regarding the rules and regulations on which the appointment of Dr Ramteke should be cancelled.

LACK OF TEACHING AND EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

The Higher Education Director through Divisional Joint Director had ruled Dr Ramteke’s appointment as null and void. The issue of Dr Ramteke’s appointment as CoE was raised by social worker Prakash Bansod by stating that Dr Ramteke lacked teaching and educational experience for the post. It may be mentioned that for appointment of CoE, teaching and educational experience is required apart from administrative acumen. However, according to the University officials, the RTMNU is an autonomous institute and its all rights and powers are reserved and safeguarded. Other authorities have no rights to interfere in its affairs. Even then, questions are being raised over the appointment of RTMNU’s CoE. The questions themselves are questionable, the varsity officials said.

The Registrar of RTMNU Dr Ashok Gomase said, “We will seek legal advice from an advocate and then only present our position.”

It is for the first time in the history of RTMNU, 100 percent members skipped the Academic Council meeting over the agenda that mentioned no discussion would be held at all on the crucial issues of blacklisted colleges and the minimum number of regular teachers required in these colleges.

Nagpur News.

The Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has written a dubious chapter in its history when the 100 members out of 100 boycotted Academic Council meeting held on Wednesday (February 5). The 100 percent boycott could certainly be called as one more Black Day in the history of RTMNU in real sense of the word.

According to information, the agenda of the Academic Council meeting triggered the drastic step of boycott on the part of the 100 members. The agenda mentioned no discussion would be held at all on the crucial issues of blacklisted colleges and the minimum number of regular teachers required in these colleges. Such agenda infuriated the members who decided to skip the meeting collectively and unitedly.

The Wednesday morning witnessed the entire university premises under the cover of tight security. There was no entry in the University offices to anyone except the RTMNU officials. Directives were issued banning entry to Directors of the educational institutes in the university premises.  In the last meeting of the Management Council, activists of  NSUI and Directors of blacklisted colleges had created ruckus and disrupted the meeting.

Last three meetings of the Academic Council were adjourned over the issue of banned colleges. The issue of banned colleges overshadowed all the meetings for the past 8 months. The issue of fixing date for the Convocation Ceremony is also pending. The Convocation Ceremony was to be held on November 16 and President of India Pranab Mukherjee was supposed to grace the function. But the President cancelled the visit to city at the last moment. Since then the date for the Convocation Ceremony has not been fixed.

The Vice Chancellor of RTMNU Dr Vilas Sapkal, while reacting on boycott of today’s Academic Council meeting by all the members, said that discussion on blacklisted colleges and Convocation Ceremony was certainly to be held in the meeting. It seems that the Council members are not interested in discussing the issues. Now, the decision on the same will be taken in accordance with the rules and regulations. Action will also be taken against the University members who were absent  in the meeting, added Sapkal.

The Academic Council members, on the contrary, opined that the lackadaisical attitude of the Vice Chancellor on various issues and indecision on his part prompted them to boycott the meeting.
