Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

CET-ExamNagpur News.

What does a student do when two  examinations are on the same day? He or she has to choose between the two. While the date of one exam was declared nearly a month ago, the date of another exam is declared just a few days ago.

The date of the final examinations of the students of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) final year falls on the same date with the Common Entrance Test (CET) exams conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) on March 15. The students of BBA (Final) who are aspiring  to  appear for both the examination are in a dilemma, since the date of the exams of BBA and CET are clashing on the same date.

On March 15, 2014 BBA final year students have to appear for the Entrepreneurship Development paper. On the same date the CET exams for admission into various MBA colleges in Maharashtra will also be held.

DTE had issued the examination notification in the month of December 2013 itself. Whereas, the RTMNU approved the BBA examination schedule on January 28. The time table for the same was put on NU website on February 7, without keeping in mind that both the exams will be clashing on the same day.

There are number of students who have filled up the forms for appearing in the CET exam. Now, they are in a fix and don’t know what to do. Students BBA Final have demanded to shift the date of the university exam, so that they can appear for the CET exams.

CBSENagpur News.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has gone hi-tech as far as answer-papers of Class XII are concerned. From this year, the CBSE is starting Digital Marking System and thus students of Class XII will be distributed Digital answer-papers for Economy and English subjects initially. Thereafter, all the subjects would be regularized with Digital answer-papers.

According to information, the CBSE is starting Digital Marking System on an experimental basis for Class XII initially with Economy and English subjects. In this process, the answer-papers are changed into Digital format so that the answer-papers could be checked by many teachers easily. Moreover, the possibility of any mistakes occurring is considerably reduced as the answer-papers are checked by several teachers. Even otherwise, now-a-days, the students are being provided photo copies of the checked answer-papers.

The Digital answer-paper format would be a challenge for the CBSE as lakhs of students appear for examinations in its schools across the country. The Digital Marking System was introduced last year for Class X examinations.

No-ResultNagpur News.

That the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has turned a hub of “nasty state of affairs” has emerged a well-known fact. Not a single day passes without a controversy or the other raining its ugly head. The more you write on the working style of the RTMNU the less you know about it. Newer and newer problems crop up with every passing day. Although delay in declaring results is nothing new. What is new is that the RTMNU never initiated a single step to counter the delay in declaring results over the past years together. The situation does not differ this year, too.

The results of winter examinations have not yet been declared but the summer exams are starting in March. The results of a staggering 311 courses of winter examinations have not yet been announced and thus putting the students and their parents in the dock.

The RTMNU conducts examinations for a total of 780 courses out of which results of 311 courses have not been announced till today. The students and parents have been waiting anxiously for the announcement of the results in order to chalk out further plans. According to experts, the valuation of answer-papers in RTMNU is not done properly, and if the revaluation is carried out, then it could create enormous problems for the students. The RTMNU had and has been facing the wrath of the students repeatedly over the problems associated with valuation and revaluation. And this time also, the University would not be spared by the students.

NO FINAL SEAL:

It may be recalled, the Vice Chancellor Dr Vilas Sapkal, in the Senate meeting, had stressed upon examinations and checking of answer-papers online so that human errors could be curbed considerably. He had assured stern actions against valuators if the marks get highly increased in the revaluation. However, according to sources, the Examination Department has not been sanctioning the VC’s move. This is the reason the RTMNU has not been putting its final seal on the process.

Nagpur News.

The meetings of Academic Council and Management Council will soon be convened to fix the date for holding the 100th Convocation Ceremony of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU). The main agenda of both the meetings will be Convocation Ceremony.  “Organization of the 100th Convocation is the responsibility of all the members of Academic and Management Councils” said Vice Chancellor Dr. Vilas Sapkal.

In the past few weeks, all the meetings of Academic and Management Councils focus only on a single issue of banned colleges. The members are alleging that the VC is not listening to them and not taking decisions on the issue of banned colleges. The infuriated members on February 5 had collectively skipped the Academic Council meeting on the same issue.

The members also alleged that the Vice Chancellor  is not serious about holding Convocation Ceremony as soon as possible. Dr.Sapkal, making his point said, “Discussion on Convocation Ceremony was certainly to be held in the earlier meetings. We had made it a table item to be discussed. Now, Convocation Ceremony will be main agenda to be discussed in the Management Council meeting to be held on February 15 and Academic Council meeting as well.

Management Council meeting crucial:

Many issues of the previously held Management Council meetings have not been finalized as yet. University Budget, Annual Vision, Finanacial Vision and many other important issues are still pending.  Now, it is important that the Management Council meeting continues without any hindrance.

There is also suspense over the Senate meeting expected to be held in March. Whether it will be held or not, is the question mark. A notification of the same has to be issued 45 days prior to the meeting. Governor’s assent is a also required for the Senate meeting.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur News.

As part of their Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system, officials of the CBSE system have changed the format of the English exam for students in the 9th and 10th standards.  Trying to keep up with the changing times, the officials have realized the importance of emphasis on the practical aspects of language training and have thus rolled out the ‘Assessment in Speaking and Listening Skills’ (ASL)

This is why they have incorporated within their teaching and grading system, a specific section of ‘Assessment in Speaking and Listening Skills’.

Students of Class 9 will have the exam conducted twice over the course of one year. The weightage for each exam will be 10 marks. However, students of class 10 will have the exam only once and this too will be scored for 10 marks. These scores will be included in the Final Assessment.

The Listening Assessment will be conducted in a way that will test the ability of the student to grasp information quickly and correctly while listening to a recording. This recording will be played twice and the students will then be tested assessment worksheet consisting of 4 sections. The students will not be able to interrupt the recording with questions.

The Speaking Assessment will be used to test the students on their ability to speak in English for a total of 4-5 minutes.  The student will not be required to memorize the topic he speaks on but will be allowed to consult his notes from time to time.

The Nagpur Today, in an effort to seek comments from Principals of different CBSE schools in the city, contacted the Principal, BVM, Civil Lines, Anju Bhutani. She said that the endeavor was a very good one as focus on the practical aspects of language is a must.

The Principal, Modern School, Neeru Kapai, told Nagpur Today that it is reasonably okay but may not be practical in all its aspects. She said that to test the students individually and record them while they are speaking will have serious manpower difficulties.

BJYM leader Nidhi Kamdar

BJYM leader Nidhi Kamdar

Nagpur News : A delegation of about 30 to 40 Engineering students under the leadership of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on February 14, 2014, had gathered at Dikshant Sabhagriha Hall to meet the Vice Chancellor of RTMNU Dr. Vilas Sapkal. They were sitting peacefully waiting to speak to the Vice Chancellor about their woes and problems so that their long pending grievances can be redressed.

A meeting of the Academic Council was scheduled to take place in the Dikshant Sabhagriha Hall. However since the members decided to boycott the meeting, the scheduled meeting got adjourned. The students led by BJYM leader Jeetendra Thakur and Nidhi Kamdar were sitting in the Dikshant Sabhagriha Hall to meet the Vice Chancellor and speak to him about the long pending problems faced by them in relations to the examination results, revaluation, convocation, research scholars and other allied problems.

However, at 02:00 pm the Pro-Vice-Chancellor passed the students and after that what happened could only be described as police excess.

1891001_10151854027917257_636548383_nAt 2.30 pm in a dramatic manner the police arrived there and started misbehaving with the students and started treating them as if they were speaking to criminals and terrorists.

They ordered the students sitting peacefully near the Dikshant Sabhagriha Hall to vacate the premises. The students tried to speak to the police officials about why they are sitting there and all that they want to do is to speak to the Vice Chancellor and appraise him of all the problems faced by them. However the police officials from Sitabuldi police station (who were probably directed by the VC) were not in a mood to listen to the woes of the students and started dragging and manhandling the innocent students.

1779137_10151854027982257_2002629653_nThe Vice President of BJYM Nidhi Kamdar and National Executive Member of the BJYM Shivani Dani who were sitting with the students to help them to get their grievances redressed, was pulled up by Women Police Constables in such a violent manner that the dress she was wearing was riding up and her body torso was visible to other policemen and male students. She has been requesting the cops to leave her alone and that she was ready to come, but they were treating her violently and were dragging her as if she was a criminal or a mental patient.

This police excess could not be pardoned and in no way justified say some students who were present on the occasion.

Vice President of BJYM Nidhi Kamdar said that we are not criminals and we should not be treated like one. She said that the public authorities should not misbehave with common man like this. The police officials are here to protect us and not to misbehave with us like this. She added that we were at the premises to help the students to get redressal of their grievances. We wanted to help the students to communicate their problems to the RTMNU authorities and get an amicable solution for them. This action by the police authorities has forced us to seek legal action against the cops.

SapkalNagpur News.

The Vice Chancellor  of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Dr Vilas Sapkal  has given an impression that if need arises, he may use his special powers in the Senate Meeting scheduled in the month of  March to pass very vital financial budget of RTMNU to ensure smooth functioning.  Dr Sapkal has made this move since the members of all the Councils have resorted to boycott all the Academic and Management meetings.

The financial budget of the RTMNU is scheduled to be placed in the Senate meeting of March. However, before placing it in the Senate, it has to be placed in the Management  meeting and approval for the same obtained. However, since the pressing issue of 250 banned colleges have caused the last two Academic and Management Council meeting to be adjourned and boycotted by the members, this issue may not be received in good spirits. The members alleged that the administration is not implementing the Council’s decision on the same and resorted to boycotting of all the meetings.

The Governor’s office has also taken cognizance of this and has asked the Governors representative in the Senate, Sanjay Khadakkar to submit the report on the role of the Council and RTMNU administration in the non-functioning and defunct of various important functionings of the university.

The RTMNU’s financial budget has to be approved as soon as possible. Whereas, because of the boycott of the meetings by the Council Members, the budget could not be  passed in the Management meeting. However, keeping in mind the role and attitude of the members in preventing the passing of the budget, the Vice Chancellor may use his special powers according to University Act- 14/7  and pass the budget.

Dr Sapkal said, “Because of the boycott by the members of the councils, many important works related to students’ welfare has been pending. The budget consists  student welfare schemes, which cannot be kept pending, so I will have to use my prerogative and special power vested in me and pass the budget”, added Sapkal.

Nagpur Today: The English paper of HSC examination conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education on the second of the HSC examination had a poser in one of the questions giving hard time to some of the students appearing for this paper.

In one of the questions it read as follows:

B) Grammar (Do as directed)

i) _________my friend is _____ able translator and _____ impartial editor as well.

(Rewrite using appropriate articles)

This question carried 1 mark. The students attempting this question felt that there can be no article which can be filled in the first blank space. If so is it a misprint or a poser?

However, Nagpur Today spoke to some English teachers, who opined that there is a mention of this type of question called Omission of articles, where the student is supposed to mark a dash or — and attempt the remaining part of the question.

The teacher also opined that since the question carried only 1 mark, how can one mark be divided into three answers for three blank spaces? For the rightfully two blanks the marks can be divided into 0.5 + 0.5= 1. Therefore, the question is a poser to test if the student understands the concept of omission of article. Therefore, the question is neither wrong nor a misprint.

Less number of copying reported due to lack of staff in flying squads

The English paper of HSC on Friday saw only 20 cases of copying by students in Nagpur Division. The English paper is often considered to be tough, especially by students from schools in rural areas.   Usually many cases of copying are found in the rural areas. However, due to lack of enough staff to man the flying Squads reaching to the far flung areas only 20 cases of copying were registered or reported.

This year, the Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education has assigned about 70 flying squads to ensure copying is not carried out in the Nagpur Division. Since the start of the exam, the preparations were looking weak. Even the Chairman of the Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education is said not to be on regular rolls. The Chairman of Amravati Board has been given additional responsibility to look after the Nagpur Division.

According to sources, in the rural areas, copying was carried on in many places. The number of copying cases reported at Nagpur is 8, Gondia-9, Gadchiroli- 5, Chandrapur-5, Bhandara-4 and in Wardha-2.
