Nagpur Today: Apathetic attitude towards the students residing in the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) hostel was apparent as Nagpur Today conducted a survey on various basic amenities. Turning a blind eye towards the degrading condition of the water tanks, leaking wall rooms and the toilets.

The basic amenities at the upper P.G.D.T Boys Hostel situated at Amravati Road, near Guru Nanak Bhavan is so pathetic, because of the negligent and callous attitude of the administration.  There are around 200 students residing in the 4 wings of this hostel. The water consumed by the inmates here is very dirty and not potable at all. The water used for other ablutions is also polluted and dirty. It was seen that the water tanks have not been cleaned since many years.

DSC_1173

The water tanks are also not covered exposing the students to various health hazards. It means the number of students who fell sick or caught dangerous diseases is because of the lack concern by the administration.

The condition of bathrooms and toilets are no different and are in a state of even worst condition. There are no lights there and the bathrooms and toilets are very dirty and filthy. 50 to 60 people have to share 4 bathrooms and the condition of these bathrooms and toilets are in so pitiable state that there is a foul smell emanating till the corridors.

DSC_1200

The rooms in the hostel too are not in good shape. The walls are leaking and during monsoon the students have to face the brunt of moist walls and fungus growing on it. The condition of the mess is no different. Students complained about the quality of food.

The corridors of the hostel premises is covered with filth everywhere. According to information the cleaner who does this work has visited from last three months.

DSC_1176Now the interesting thing that is happening here is that, the administration seems to be more concerned towards renovation of the common hall here. Of no use new flooring of the hall is being done removing the old tiles which are in good condition. Also Outer wall is being constructed in the premises.

The students residing in the hostel are mostly from rural areas, and fear to raise their voice against the authorities, and continue to stay without proper basic amenities.

Woes of the Hostelites

“we are exposed to very bad living conditions here. It is impossible to sleep in night when it rains due to water leakage. Moreover since 3 months the premises have not been cleaned which is affecting the health conditions of the student residing here.”

PGDMNagpur News.

The autonomous educational institutes have started to oppose the likely closing of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) course run by these institutes since the past decades as the technical and management education have come under the authority of University Grants Commission.

EPSI MEETS MINISTER:

Since the technical and management education will now be dwelt by the UGC, those autonomous educational institutes which are running the PGDM may lose control over the course, admission fees and examinations. The net outcome of this aspect will be ominous effect on quality and placements. It may be recalled, the association of management institutes Educational Promotion Society for India (EPSI) representatives met the Human Resource Minister Pallam Raju in this connection.

UGC BESTOWED WITH POWERS:

The technical and management education has come under the UGC authority in place of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in accordance with the Supreme Court order in April this year. The change of authority has been welcomed by most of universities and engineering colleges but PGDM institutes have been vehemently opposing the change.

TIME TESTED SUBJECT:

The autonomous institutes run the PGDM course which is on the lines of MBA. The institutes bring changes in the PGDM course from time to time according to the demands of industries. The PGDM course is time tested by the market requirements in comparison with MBA course. The MBA course is run by the University-affiliated colleges but the autonomous institutes run the PGDM in place of MBA.

Ayurved students, battered and bruised, for Ayurvedic University in Vidarbha for justice

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

The students have been facing the nagging problems. Neither the admissions take place on time nor the examinations held as per schedule. Moreover, the students have to visit allopathic hospitals for internship. There is no independent hospital.

AyurvedaNagpur News.

The students across Vidarbha, studying Ayurvedic medicine, have strongly demanded setting up of Ayurved  University in the region as the education in the high-profile medicine branch has itself become a problem and has put them in the dock. The students have been facing the nagging problems. Neither the admissions take place on time nor the examinations held as per schedule. Moreover, the students have to visit allopathic hospitals for internship. Therefore, the demand for Ayurved University in Vidarbha itself for resolving their enormous problems.

LONG DISTANCE:

At present, the Ayurved University in Maharashtra is situated in Nashik which controls all Ayurvedic Colleges in the State. The long distance for colleges in Vidarbha also distances resolution of the problems faced by students within the timeframe. And they have to hop to Nashik for every contentious issue. There are a total of 16 Ayurvedic Colleges in Vidarbha with the strength of students standing at about 15,000 studying for Graduation, Post-Graduation and PhD.

NO STIPENDS:

The students said, “The Nagpur’s Ayurved students visit Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Mayo Hospital for internship. There is no independent hospital for us. Moreover, the students studying in private Ayurvedic Colleges are not being paid stipends. On the contrary, the private colleges recover Rs 2,500 from the students in the name of stipend itself. Exams are not held on time and answer papers contain several flaws even after checking by the concerned teachers,” lamented the students.

DIVERTING TO OTHER COURSES:

Another disappointing aspect faced by the students is that they are forced to run for other courses with no choice as the admission process never starts on time. This year, the BAMS admissions were completed in November instead of September itself and thus leaving many seats vacant in the private Ayurvedic Colleges. And more frustratingly, the Ayurved education is getting costlier day by day.

NEW ASSOCIATION:

The Vidarbha students have been included in the Maharashtra Ayurved Students’ Association. The Vidarbha members now want their separate Vidarbha Ayurved Students’ Association and taking measures for registration of their new Association. The aim is timely and proper justice for students of Vidarbha.

Dr Hemant Rahangdale, President of Vidarbha Unit of Maharashtra Ayurved Students’ Association, also supported the demand for Vidarbha Ayurved University. “The Maharashtra Government should hammer out solutions for Vidarbha students who are facing financial problems and mental harassment as well. The students will get the justice only when an Ayurved University is set up in Vidarbha,” Dr Rahangdale asserted.

RTMNU’s New Year gift to students, provides 4 semester relief, ‘jumping’ facility no hurdle

nuNagpur News.

The Vidvat Parishad of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), in a major decision, has extended four semester relief to students and thus regularizing the problematic “jumping” facility issue. Now, students have to pass the time-tested ATKT rules and get admissions directly to the next semester. The Vidvat Parishad meeting held on Sunday, in a way, presented a New Year gift to the students.

The Engineering Faculty Dean Ravindra Kshirsagar had raised the “jumping” facility issue in Vidvat Parishad. The Vidvat Parishad amended the Ordinance 6, 2010 and subsequently the “jumping” facility is regularized. Now, in future, the students will not face any problem in getting admissions from First Semester to Fifth Semester and from Third Semester to Seventh Semester. Dr Babarao Taywade had also raised the issue in the last meeting of Vidvat Parishad that has now been fully recognized.

It may be recalled that the RTMNU has brought Graduation and Post-Graduation courses under semester system. The students encountered hurdles in getting admissions to the next semester due to delayed declaration of revaluation results and “jumping” facility. The engineering students had resorted to uproar and intense slogan shouting in front of RTMNU in this connection. However, now, if the students come in accordance with the stringent ATKT rules, it will not be difficult for them to take admissions to the next class.

The Engineering Faculty has been brought under Vidvat Parishad according to the rules of Council of Architecture. The PhD will not be necessary for appointing teachers in engineering. Now, the posts of Professor, Associate Professor and Principal could be filled up without PhD. The appointments of teachers in Amravati, Mumbai and Pune are done in accordance with the same rule.

RTMNU resorts to damage control exercise on granting of affiliations to flawed colleges

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NU111Nagpur News.

The Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), now-a-days on the map of the country for its blind eyed state of affairs and thus resulting in dozens of controversies, one of them being the affiliation to colleges. The RTMNU went on granting affiliation spree even to the colleges that openly violated rules and regulations laid down for getting affiliated to RTMNU. However, the RTMNU has now opened its eyes and initiated damage control exercise.

The Vidvat Parishad, in a meeting held on Monday, has decided to send a proposal to Deans Committee for changing format of the Local Enquiry Committee (LEC). The RTMNU grants affiliation to a college on the basis of LEC report. The LEC visits colleges for inspection purpose. The LEC prepares its report after inspecting equipments and facilities in the colleges. The report is then submitted to Management Council and after permission from the Management Council, the affiliation is granted by RTMNU. The University has taken the step towards changing format of LEC after long years. Now, the Deans Committee will go through the every aspect and then decide stringent criteria for granting affiliations to colleges.

COMMITTEE SET FOR ADMISSIONS:

However, in the past, the RTMNU was granting affiliations to such colleges which did not have a single regular teacher. The colleges then were blacklisted and barred from admissions for First Year just 6-7 months ago. Many colleges did not have 50 per cent students on their rolls and these colleges were also blacklisted. Recently, 29 colleges were deleted from the list of blacklisted colleges. Now, a Committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Dr Babanrao Taywade to decide the capacity of the colleges for the First Year admissions. The Committee will consider every aspect in this connection. Even the Joint Director of Higher Education Department has sent a letter to RTMNU to review the admission capacity of the colleges. The Committee also consists Deans of all Faculties. The Committee will prepare its report after studying the issue in details.

RTMNU SILENT ON LOSSES TO ENGINEERING STUDENTS:

A Vidvat Parishad member raised the issue of losses to students of engineering colleges in the meeting. The engineering students had demanded in November that the exams be stalled on the grounds that the results of revaluations were not declared. Even some students had not received Xerox copies of answer papers. The RTMNU had assured the engineering students that if their problems are not resolved before beginning of the exams, the special exams would be held for them. Subsequently, the RTMNU resolved the revaluation issues speedily but before the results of revaluations could be declared, the exams had started. It means, the students who had passed after revaluations, were forced to appear for the exam. The students were put at losses this way due to careless attitude of the RTMNU. The Administration had no answer to this question but to maintain silence.

The National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and Qushu Industrial University, Japan, have signed “Common Research Agreement” for reducing poisonous emission caused by thousands of vehicles and other equipments run by diesel. The emission contains harmful particles of carbon dioxide and carbon mono oxide, poisonous gases which damage the environment balance and takes heavy toll of human beings and animals as well. The “Common Research Agreement” signed by NEERI and Qushu University will jointly work for Government of India in reducing the diesel emission, said NEERI’s Chief Scientist Nitin Labhsetwar at a press conference held on Monday.

The NEERI Scientist further said, “The gigantic increase in diesel-run vehicles, massive use of diesel in generators and mobile towers is emitting tons and tons of hazardous gases containing deadly combination of carbon dioxide and carbon mono oxide. The emission of hazardous gases have been damaging the delicate environment and creating havoc for mankind by way of fatal diseases related to the environment. The research is going on the technology which would stop emission at the very source and absorb the gases. The Professor and Scientist  of Japan’s Qushu Industrial University Dr Yasutaki Teraoka is leading the team that will work with NEERI on the project,” Nitin Labhsetwar said.

Dr Teraoka said, “The hi-tech technology has to be developed for India at lesser cost. The Agreement will give the necessary momentum for developing the technology. India’s students are of curious nature and the Agreement would provide the scientists of NEERI and Qushu University, students an opportunity to work together,” the Japanese scientist stated.
